The Indian Ocean Geoid Low at a plume-slab overpass

چکیده

The Indian Ocean Geoid Low (IOGL) appears as a prominent feature if the geoid is, usual, shown with respect to Earth's reference shape. However, it is relative hydrostatic equilibrium, i.e. including excess flattening, merely regional low on north-south trending belt of geoid. For mantle viscosity structure an increase 2–3 orders magnitude from asthenosphere lower mantle, which suitable explain long-wavelength geoid, can result both negative density anomalies in upper and positive mantle. Here we propose that IOGL be explained due linear, approximately north-south-trending high-density anomaly crossed by West-Southwest–East-Northeast low-density While former its location region subduction inbetween two Large Shear Velocity Provinces (LLSVPs), here latter eastward outflow Kenya plume rising above eastern edge African LLSVP. We show that, realistic assumptions match size, shape low.

Geoid Models for Indian Territory

Geoid modelling for India is a complex, exhaustive and continuous task because of its large area and tremendous varieties of surface. This paper reviews available geoid models for Indian Territory developed through geometric, gravimetric and hybrid methods for Northern, Eastern, Southern, and Western regions and presents a summary of further scope for the geoid development in India.

Slab‐plume interaction beneath the Pacific Northwest

[1] The Pacific Northwest has undergone complex plate reorganization and intense tectono‐volcanic activity to the east during the Cenozoic (last 65 Ma). Here we show new high‐resolution tomographic images obtained using shear and compressional data from the ongoing USArray deployment that demonstrate first that there is a continuous, whole‐ mantle plume beneath the Yellowstone Snake River Plain...

Ocean Currents Modeling along the Iranian Coastline of the Oman Sea and the Northern Indian Ocean

The Makran Coast (Iranian Coastline of the Oman Sea on the Northern Indian Ocean) plays an important role in country’s future navigation and trade due to its accessibility. In 2014, the Iranian Makran coastline was selected by the PMO to be studied as the Phase 6 in the series of Monitoring and Modelling Studies of Iranian Coasts with all disciplines being in investigated including currents. Al...

A Mathematical Model for Indian Ocean Circulation in Spherical Coordinate

In recent years, the Indian Ocean (IO) has been discovered to have a much larger impact on climate variability than previously thought. This paper reviews processes in which the IO is, or appears to be, actively involved. We begin the mathematical model with a pattern for summer monsoon winds. Three dimensional temperature and velocity fields are calculated analytically for the ocean forced by ...

Dynamics of the elevated land plume over the Arabian Sea and the Northern Indian Ocean during northeasterly monsoons and during the Indian Ocean experiment (INDOEX)

[1] We describe the dynamics of the formation of an elevated land plume over the Arabian Sea and northern Indian Ocean observed during the 1999 Indian Ocean Experiment (INDOEX). The presence of the elevated plume above the marine boundary layer for a depth of about 2000 m could be inferred from the thermodynamic profiles of the lower troposphere obtained from research vessels in 1997, 1998, and...
